#TransformationalTuesday: Healthy Stuff
Hello everyone! I realized that I haven't posted anything health related yet, so today's post will be on that subject.
I have some health issues. Actually, most of my family has health issues. Although I haven't technically been diagnosed with anything, I have been able to figure some things out about my body. I react to a lot of foods, though thankfully nothing life threatening. I swell, have horrible bowel movements, gas, headaches, sinus issues, and feel tired all the time. It's awful, but not nearly as bad as some of my friends.
I would like to talk about one of my food intolerance's specifically. I think a lot of people react to this particular thing, but don't realize it.
I am referring to Dairy. Dairy comes in many forms: whey, cheese, yogurt, butter, shakes, ice cream, additives, creamers, and just plain milk. I love dairy, especially sour cream, caramel creamer, and butter goes on everything!
Before I was married, I had an easier time avoiding dairy, because some of my family members were also dairy-free, so we kept each other accountable. After Wesley and I were bound together in matrimony, I realized he had a dairy allergy as well. But did that stop us from eating it? No, no it didn't. I gained 40 lbs in the first four months we were married. I think my husband has a harder time letting go of dairy than I do poor guy.
The first summer we were married, we went on a strict diet and we lost quite a bit of weight. He lost way more than I did, but it didn't last more than 6 weeks and then we slowly got back into eating not so healthy stuff.
We have attempted to eat healthier, and I would like to share some tips and substitutions I have found really help.
Creamer= coconut milk is delicious, but almond doesn't work as well
Coconut cream= whipped cream, sour cream
Coconut milk/almond milk in recipes that call for milk.
Coconut and almond milk yogurts
Daiya® has dairy free cheese
Coconut oil in place of butter
Coconut/almond ice cream
At Starbucks®, you can order your drink with coconut or almond milk.
Guess what? Mayonnaise does not have dairy in it! I used to think it does, and I've across a lot of people who were mistaken as well.
That's all I have for now! Thanks for visiting!
With Love and hope,
Emily
