ThursdayThoughts: Singing
My first Thursday to share my passions and thoughts! I am excited! So excited in fact, that I have had a hard time deciding what I should share first. But I have come to the conclusion that singing is my number one favorite activity. So that will be my first. :-)
I started singing pretty young. When I was about 7-8, I remember singing for my family one night before bed and they were pretty impressed. That made me happy.
This may be a surprise to some, but I actually was the worst singer in our little group we had. I was always out of tune, and I couldn't control my voice.
Until a friend of mine heard me sing and told her amazing voice teacher about me. That pretty much changed my life and voice. My voice teacher was a Christian (which was super sweet!), and helped me not only see the potential for my voice, but also helped me gain self confidence that I didn't have because I felt my sisters were better, prettier, thinner, and more talented than I was. She was down right awesome, and she was very talented as well! (You'd have to be teaching voice!)
I helped one of my sisters who was having difficulty singing high. It sounded really bad when she tried, and also she was forcing her vibrato. When I advised her to relax, she started working on it and retrained her voice. Today, she sings better opera than I can, and I was trained for it! Relaxation does so much.
So for this post, tell me either your favorite song, or if you can sing and/or been trained, or you can ask me questions about singing, and I will try to answer them! I'm not a professional in any way, but I will try!:)
With joyful noise,
Emily

I would love to give tips on my different passions every week. My biggest tip for singing would probably be to just relax. I know it's hard when you are in front of people, but that is the best thing you can do. Relax your throat, open your mouth and sing like you are yawning. It opens everything up. When you relax you also have a natural vibrato that is so much better than forcing it.
